Backflow Prevention
Cross Connection Control Program
The CRD has implemented a Bylaw that safeguards Greater Victoria’s Drinking Water from having contaminated water flowing backwards. This bylaw includes the installation and testing of Backflow Preventers for both residential and commercial properties. Commercial settings pose a far greater threat due to high use and more possible points of contamination. These devices are also required for fire sprinkler systems. HomeWise Plumbing & Drainage is proud to have several Certified Backflow Prevention Specialists on board. Contact us to ask a question or to book an appointment.

What is Backflow?
Backflow is an undesirable reverse flow of a substance, can be water or otherwise, through a cross connection and into the drinking water system. These cross connections are found in residential homes and include the garden hose hook-up at the side of the house, irrigation system, and Hot Water Heating System to name a few. It is important to protect yourself and your family, by having a Certified Backflow Prevention Specialist install the Backflow Preventers in your home. Backflow Preventers have to be tested regularly, it is important to have a Certified Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester come in and test them yearly. Because they have many moving parts that can be subject to failure, it is crucial that you do not try and test them yourself. HomeWise Plumbing & Drainage is a certified Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester, trained to properly inspect and test Backflow Preventers to ensure you, your family and your community have clean drinking water at all times.
